A leader should take responsibilities ……….

August 20, 2008

Nice message saw today morning see and say how you like…this was given by Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam at Wharton India Economic forum , Philadelphia , March 22,2008

Question: Could you give an example, from your own experience, of how leaders should manage failure?

Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India ’s satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India ’s ‘Rohini’ satellite into orbit by 1980. I was given funds and human resources — but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.

By 1979 — I think the month was August — we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control center for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked. One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts — I had four or five of them with me — told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and there was enough reserve fuel. So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal . It was a big failure.

That day, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Prof. Satish D hawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am , and the press conference — where journalists from around the world were present — was at 7:45 am at ISRO’s satellite launch range in Sriharikota [in Andhra Pradesh in southern India ]. Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure — he said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed.. Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization.

The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite — and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, ‘You conduct the press conference today.’

I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me from reading a book; it came from that experience.

I like this Quote “When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team.“Nice presentation….

Nice Thoughts……….

September 7, 2007

  • “Successful leaders have the courage to take action while others hesitate.”
  • Sometimes love is for a moment and sometimes love is for a life time…

But sometimes, a moment with the one you love is enough to spend a lifetime…

So don’t miss the chance (like me) to be with your loved one’s,

Because that loses something which none other can replace…..

We will never get those days with ur loved ones back..…..

  • Happiness keeps u Sweet, Trials keep u Strong, Sorrow keeps u Human, Failure Keeps u Humble,

    Success keeps u Glowing,

AND MISUNDERSTANDINGS KEEPS U IN PAIN,

But its only God that Keeps u Going…….

  • When you have a Passion and a Reason to do something, you’ll surely have what you want…
It may seem hard or ev
en impossible, but if you have a Strong Enough Reason to do Something, You’ll be able to tap in your Inner God-given Potential!
  • It doesn’t matter for how long the room has been dark;
For a day, or a week, or a year, or for ten thousand years.
The moment you bring in a candle; darkness vanishes like it was never there. Similarly, it doesn’t matter for how long we are stuck in a sense of our limitations.
The moment you decide to break free, nothing
will stop you.Create the light of your life.
  • I hope today finds you living to the fullest of your ability …
With a smile on your face,
    And laughter in your heart,

    And not a single trace,
    Of sadness or harm.
I hope you find the time,

To take a moment just for you,
    To relax and unwind,

Doing things you like to do.

    Have a wonderful morning n a nice day ahead….!!!!

      • Laugh about your mistakes,

        But, learn from them.

        Joke over your troubles,

        But, gather strength from them.

        Have fun with your difficulties,
        But, overcome them.
That’s the way to live LIFE.

      • “If u look at what u dont have in life, u have nothing

But if u look at what u have in life, u have everything…..”

      • NEVER CRY FOR ANY RELATION IN LIFE
BECAUSE FOR THE ONE WHOM YOU CRY
        DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR TEARS
        AND THE ONE WHO DESERVES

        WILL NEVER LET YOU CRY……………..
NEVER SEARCH YOUR HAPPINESS IN OTHER
        SWHICH WILL MAKE YOU
FEEL ALONE,RATHER SEARCH IT IN YOUR
        SELFYOU WILL FEEL HAPPY
EVEN IF YOU ARE LEFTALONE………………….ALWAYS HAVEA POSITIVE ATTITUDE IN LIFE.
THERE IS SOMETHING POSITIVEIN EVERY PERSON.
EVEN A STOPPED WATCH IS RIGHT
TWICE A DAY………………………HAPPINESS ALWAYS LOOKS SMALL
WHEN WE HOLD IT IN OUR HANDS.
BUT WHEN WE LEARN TOSHARE IT
WE REALIZE HOW BIG AND PRECIOUS IT IS !…………….
      • If you fill your heart with regrets of yesterday
        and the worries of tomorrow,
you have no today to be thankful for.
The Choice you make today will usually affect tomorrow
more to come Have a nice day
